Working Together for a Stronger Rothesay

Who is Mike Black

I’m Michael Black, a business leader and entrepreneur currently serving as Founder & CEO of Specialty Medical Partners, where I work alongside physicians to build and grow community-based healthcare practices across Canada.

Over the course of my career, I’ve helped scale organizations from the ground up most notably co-founding and growing Canadian Orthodontic Partners to the largest dental specialty group in Canada with locations from Halifax to the Yukon.

I’ve led teams through growth, operational improvements, and complex challenges, always focused on building strong, sustainable organizations.

I bring that same practical, results driven approach to our community. I understand how to balance growth with long-term sustainability, support local businesses, and make thoughtful decisions that benefit both residents and the broader community.

I’m committed to helping Rothesay continue to grow in a way that’s responsible, transparent, and true to what makes it such a great place to live.

Campaign Priorities

Protect What Matters

Rothesay is special for a reason and it’s worth protecting.
I want to make sure we preserve the green spaces, neighbourhood feel, and sense of safety that people value every day. Growth should add to our community, not take away from what makes it feel like home.

Deliver Value for Residents

Every dollar matters especially right now.
Residents are feeling the pressure, and property taxes have become a real concern for many families. I believe council has a responsibility to manage budgets carefully, prioritize what truly matters, and make sure residents are getting real value for what they pay.

Plan Growth Carefully

Growth is part of Rothesay’s future but it has to be done right.
I support thoughtful, well-planned development that respects existing neighbourhoods and aligns with what residents can realistically afford. No rushed decisions, and no added pressure on taxpayers.

Keep Rothesay Within Reach

Rothesay should be a place where people can stay and not feel pushed out.
That means supporting housing options that work for young families, seniors, and those looking to remain in the community, while keeping affordability front of mind in every decision council makes.
